So if a game drags out too long, it'll be in the warlord's favor, if he/she isn't eliminated by then. And it's not that slow either, so you've to rush fast to counter it, or you will get overwhelmed by the economic power of the warlord.ġ0 gold for a new city will pay for itself in 20 turns. With those bonsuses, and even without to some extent, you can spam new cities for gold. It's even exploitable with Tigran's racial +5 gold bonus in combination with grey adapt +5 gold bonus. Warlord's +5 gold bonus city can be game changing. If we're going to be talking about the necromancer expanding, I always had problems expanding, even on large maps and expander sphere. Without magic, what the sorcerer going to do? At the very least, the sorcerer should've a lower chance of critical failfure, but I doubt anything will change about that. Warlord disjuncted? That's okay, he/she has more passive buffs outside of spellcasting, unless I'm not remembering correctly.Īnd if the sorcerer's disjunction critically fails, big opps there. This game play mechanic forces me to waste points on summoning, and make the sorcerer as a whole a less attractive class.īack then, the sorcerer could control the battlefield with casting points, now he/she can't even depend on global enchantment spellcasting as a reliable source of power. I don't like how you can get a critical disjunction, and lost all your casting points, especially when a whole class like the sorcerer is designed to cast spells. If you bring priests out to dispel, I'll just kill them with good units like mounted elven horse archers who've the magical ability to sprint, and the potential to shoot arcane arrows. There're reason why old western RPGs don't give warriors good spells, because why play mage if he/she is so frail and weak. Many of their good spells are quite cheap. Warlord can cast spells, but at the same time, are less dependent on them. Newer spell disjunction mechanics also make warlord stronger. Finaly someone with the same point of view as me. I rather play something else designed for multiplayer. Right now, I'm tired of debating.īefore anyone assumes I'm a multiplayer, I'm not as I believe Age of Wonders 3 isn't an enjoyable experience as a multiplayer game. I can go into details, but I admit I'm mostly just posting for fun. Lame spells aren't interesting either.Īnd when countering warlords, they can counter counter with the right race. There're no cool spells, and in my opinion, chaos rift doen't, it was too lame before the nerf, and now it feels like a waste of mana. The other problem is the sorcerer class is actually pretty boring as the majority of its strategies revolve around stun locking units. While not as bad as earlier Age of Wonders games, I can see how the warlord has an unfair advantage due to raw numbers that anyone can benefit from no matter what play style they have. Here, the warlord 50% more experience conqueror just make any hero level faster. It's harder to build a doomsday hero in Age of Wonders 3, but it's still very possible with good item drops, and it can be difficult to counter, since you must build your entire empire to counter such ridiculous heroes. Yes, you could get undead reaper, incarnates, etc out, but you've to do that to counter them. For example, defense focused heroes kill everything, and orc warlord spam isn't easy to deal with. Previous Age of Wonders games have problems where straight forward buffs are difficult to counter. Sure the global spell double spell casting, but it doesn't have persistent gold medals of Global assault. ![]() You normally can only get more spell casting point by building the expensive grand temple.
